Non Profit Jobs

Working in a non profit organization can really change your life. There are all kinds of non profit jobs out there, and any one of them is a great opportunity to change the world for the better. Not all non profit job openings are appropriate for all people, however. Non profit jobs are pretty diverse, and you can probably do basically anything in a non for profit setting if you want to.

The first non profit job I ever worked was in college. It was basically canvassing door-to-door. I called myself, jokingly, a ?salesman for liberal guilt.? Basically, I was raising money for an environmentalist group, focusing on issues of watershed, land management, and cutting down on pollution. It was pretty broad-based, but it was an interesting job. I got to meet a lot of people, and talk politics with folks from all kinds of different backgrounds.

The only thing I didn’t like about the nonprofit job was that it was difficult to make money. I lived in a fairly liberal neighborhood, but no one really had any cash. Some people were really good at canvassing, but I wasn’t one of them. Unless you really knew how to hustle, you simply couldn’t convince people to give you more than a couple of dollars. We all had quotas, and if we didn’t make them, we were not making rent. Needless to say, that particular non profit job did not last me for very long.

Of course, I’ve had better luck with some of the other nonprofit jobs that I have worked. One of my favorite ones was working in a research position, studying urban development and planning. It really was a lot of fun. Although I like working with people, my favorite thing to do is to sit around and think. Getting paid to do that is a dream come true for someone like me. That kinds of non profit job is highly sought after, although the pay isn’t always very good. Nevertheless, if you really want to put your mind to work making a difference in the world, that is definitely the way to do it.

Of course, one of my friends has a much different view of non profit organizations. For him, it is all about getting his hands dirty. He loves anything that is hands-on, and non profit job training is his field of choice. It doesn’t really matter as long as you know what you like to do. After all, there are enough nonprofit jobs for everyone.
